The CEELI Institute welcomes the appointment of Robert R. Strang as its new Executive Director. Mr. Strang brings over two decades of experience developing and managing rule of law programs worldwide with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). He also has extensive criminal justice expertise as a former Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York.
"We are very pleased Rob will be joining the CEELI Institute to lead our mission to advance the rule of law globally, a mission that is now more critical than ever," said Board Chair Dr. Mark S. Ellis. "Rob's extensive experience designing and delivering rule of law programming will be invaluable to our work and the communities we serve."
As the founding director of the International Institute for Justice and the Rule of Law in Malta in 2014, Mr. Strang will bring valuable leadership experience to the CEELI Institute. He has also spent 15 years leading DOJ-implemented capacity-building programs in Myanmar, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Russia.
Most recently, he worked at DOJ’s Human Rights and Special Prosecutions Section to bring accountability to perpetrators of war crimes and other atrocities in Ukraine. Before that, he worked on multilateral justice matters at DOJ's Office of International Affairs.
"I have long admired the CEELI Institute for its work training and advising lawyers, judges, and legal experts," Mr. Strang said. "I am delighted to join CEELI and work toward our shared goals of promoting the rule of law and combatting corruption in the face of increasing challenges around the world.”
Mr. Strang will join the CEELI Institute on January 8, 2024.
