Launch of Report on Freedom of Information in Central and Eastern Europe

21-22 October 2024
Villa Grébovka, Prague

Access to information contributes to holding public institutions accountable and making them more transparent. The general public has the ‘right to know’ about the functioning and activities of public institutions, allowing it to remain informed about their performance and efficiency. Effective and appropriate freedom of information frameworks contribute to fostering public trust in the government sector and play a critical role in combatting corruption. Access to information is thus key to protecting the rule of law and democratic systems.

The CEELI Institute, in collaboration with civil society in Central and Eastern Europe, is launching a report on Freedom of Information as an Anti-Corruption Tool at a Roundtable on 21-22 October 2024. The discussions will focus on challenges and opportunities in using access to information to combat corruption, and will feature presentations by experts from the region and beyond. Using access to information to monitor high-level appointments in the public sector, including in the healthcare sector, will be highlighted on the second day of the roundtable.

We only accept applications from civil society actors and journalists from Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia. Other applications will be disregarded.
