This series of two webinars on Leadership Skills is designed as an opportunity for judges of the African Judicial Exchange Network to come together and discuss good practices and challenges on judicial leadership. The topics of these series have been identified in close cooperation with the members of the Core Group of the African Judicial Network. The faculty for each of the webinars will consist of both African and overseas experts. Each session reserves sufficient time for discussion, so that the participating judges have an opportunity to ask questions and/or share their experience.
Judicial leadership is crucial for a well-functioning, independent judiciary that is transparent, accountable and counters and combats corruption. The first webinar of the series on Leadership Skills will focus on leadership and management skills for judges and how these skills can be used effectively. During this webinar, we will see how management and leadership skills can be used effectively while upholding the important principle of judicial independence. We will examine the relationship between judicial independence and judicial leadership and the role of individual judges in this. The first webinar of this series will delve into:
• Good practices on judicial leadership
• Principles and core competencies of judicial leadership and management
• Balancing leadership, independence, and efficiency in the judicial system
